Mongolia and Thailand Strengthen Civil Aviation and Transport Cooperation

On August 1, 2025, Minister of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia Mr. B. Delgersaikhan met with Mr. Nattapong Punthakeirtpaisarn ,Honorary Consul of Mongolia (ณัฐพงศ์ พันธเกียรติไพศาล, กงกุลกิตติมศักดิ์ประจำประเทศมองโกเลีย) to the Kingdom of Thailand, and his delegation to exchange views on cooperation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister B. Delgersaikhan expressed his appreciation to Mr. Nattapong, who has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of Mongolia to the Kingdom of Thailand, as well as to the Thai business delegates for visiting and working in Mongolia.

Mongolia and Thailand signed the Air Services Agreement in 1994, enabling the operation of direct flights. Under the agreement, “MIAT” Mongolian Airlines from the Mongolian side and “AeroThai” from the Thai side were designated as scheduled air carriers to operate on the Ulaanbaatar–Bangkok route. In addition, “MIAT” Mongolian Airlines and “Hunnu Air” LLC currently operate direct charter flights from Ulaanbaatar to Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket.
The Thai Civil Aviation Training Center has trained about 80 Mongolian air traffic controllers since 1999 and provided recurrent training for more than 200 controllers in total. The Minister noted that Mongolia wishes to continue and expand cooperation in this field.

Minister Delgersaikhan also introduced the government’s policy to upgrade local airports to meet the ICAO international 4C classification standard. The goal is to improve the capacity for both domestic and international flights from regional airports, thereby contributing to regional economic growth, tourism, and the development of transport and logistics.

Within this framework, opportunities for developing and investing in local airports such as “Mörön” Airport in Khuvsgul Province, “Gurvansaikhan” Airport in Umnugovi Province, “Khovd” Airport in Khovd Province, and “Choibalsan” Airport in Dornod Province were discussed, along with proposals to increase the frequency of flights between the two countries.

Honorary Consul of Mongolia to the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. Nattapong, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted that there is full potential for cooperation between the two countries in civil aviation, tourism, economy, and healthcare, among other fields. He also noted that certain proposals will be conveyed to the relevant Thai authorities for further collaboration.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister B. Delgersaikhan and Honorary Consul P. Nattapong reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation between Mongolia and Thailand, particularly in the field of transport and especially in civil aviation.
