Mr. Mongkol Surasajja, President of the Senate, welcomed HE Mr. Tumur Amarsanaa, Ambassador of Mongolia to Thailand. The ambassador visited to congratulate Mr. Mongkol on his appointment as President of the Senate and to discuss matters of mutual interest. The reception was attended by General Kriangkrai Srirak, First Vice President of the Senate, Mr. Nirut Yupphathit, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Ms. Aemor Srikongpan, Chair of the Religion, Morality, Ethics, Art, and Culture Committee, along with Senators Professor Chanarong Panrungrong, Mr. Weerapun Suwannamai, Mr. La Dilokvityarat, Mr. Suntorn Prukpapatt, and Mrs. Pannita Sathantripop, Deputy Secretary-General of the Senate, who was acting as Secretary-General of the Senate. Also attending was Mr. Nattapong Punthakeirtpaisarn, Honorary Consul of Mongolia in Phuket and Phang Nga.
The President of the Senate noted the significance of this year, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Mongolia. Over the years, both countries have enjoyed smooth relations and close cooperation across multiple dimensions. In legislative relations, the Thai Parliament established the Thailand-Mongolia Friendship Parliamentary Group and maintains multilateral relations, especially through the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Recently, the Senate President led a Thai parliamentary delegation to participate in the 149th IPU Assembly and related meetings in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 14-19, 2024, where the Thai delegation voted for a Mongolian parliamentarian to assume a position on the IPU’s Committee. of Human Rights of Parliamentarians (CHRP). The Senate President emphasized Thailand’s Senate support for the 5-year Thailand-Mongolia Cooperation Plan (2022-2027), covering five areas: trade, investment, tourism and culture, agriculture, and academic cooperation.
He expressed confidence that, with the ambassador’s initiatives and support from the Honorary Consul of Mongolia in Phuket and Phang Nga, relations and cooperation between Thailand and Mongolia will continue to expand comprehensively.
The ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Senate President and senators for the warm reception and acknowledged the Thai Parliament’s support for the Mongolian parliamentarian’s role on the IPU Committee. In July 2024, the Mongolian Parliament held general elections and established a new Mongolia-Thailand Friendship Parliamentary Group. On this occasion, the ambassador extended an invitation for the Senate President and members of the Senate to visit Mongolia officially to strengthen bilateral relations and legislative cooperation. Topics of mutual interest, such as promoting religious tourism and developing sports, were also proposed for discussion.
After the meeting, the Senate President, the Mongolian Ambassador to Thailand, and Thai and Mongolian representatives attended a performance featuring Mongolian traditional music blended with Thai traditional music, with National Artist Mr. Thanis Sriklindee performing in Special Reception Room 203.
